Webelos

A cub scout's last two years are spent as a Webelos scout. Webelos stands for We'll be loyal scouts. This is for scouts who are in fourth grade (Webelos I) and fifth grade (Webelos II). The Webelos II program will end in February when the scout crosses over to the Boy Scouts.

The Webelos I will work on the Webelos badge requirements. The Webelos II will work on the Arrow of Light requirements.

There are some things that are different between Webelos and other cub scout ranks.

  • Parents cannot sign off on Webelos advancements. The Webelos scout should take his handbook to his den leader and get the den leader to sign off on achievement completion.
  • Webelos will work toward Activity Badges, which are pins that will be worn on a special uniform display pin.
  • Webelos can camp and are encouraged to camp out as much as possible. Unlike other ranks, a Webelos scout can share a tent with another Webelos scout (the BSA rule still applies that an adult may not share a tent at any time with a scout that is not his/her child).

Here is an online version of the Webelos handbook.

Some awards that a Webelos scout can work on are:

During the Webelos II year, scouts need to attend as many Boy Scout Troops as they can so that they can crossover to a troop that fits them. Here are the Hillsborough troops:
