Cub-O-Ree 2004
The 2004 Cub-O-Ree, a cub-scout-only event, was held September 24th-26th at Carter Finley Stadium, Raleigh NC. After getting though the stalled traffic on Highway 40, we setup camp on Friday night. Saturday we setup our display on Mississippi including a live Catfish that was acquired from David Kuzminski's pond. It was a big hit and drew many a cub scout, parent and sibling.
While we had lots of information about Mississippi, most folks were interested in our catfish and information on the world record catfish (60", 121lbs in case you're interested - caught live in Texas and on display in an acquarium there). Several states were represented by other Packs and there was much to see. Some things we learned about included a working replica of a lighthouse in Maine and participating in a Kentucky Derby.
In addition to the states on display, there were games and activities to play. We made parachutes, did a flag puzzle relay, played tug-a-war and roadtrip games, ran an obstacle course and participated in making a flag using handprints. There were displays from the North Carolina Highway Patrol as well as Military and Hospital Helicopters. We searched through fossil exhibits and found fossils and shark teeth that we got to keep. There were several Indian lore exhibits and the boys participated in Native American dancing with members of the Order of the Arrow. The glow sticks and footballs were also a BIG hit. I hope you will join us for the next Cub-O-Ree in 2006!
